JT Rotary gets into Christmas tree business
JOSHUA TREE — The Joshua Tree Rotary Club’s Christmas tree lot is in operation with a quality crop of Yuletide arborage.
There are both noble and Douglas fir trees available, according to Rick Beatty, Joshua Tree Rotary Club Christmas tree chairman.
Nobles are 6 to 8 feet tall while the “Dougs” are in the 6 to 10 foot range.
Because of a farm shortfall this year, there is a limited number of trees available for $20 that promise to go quickly, according to Beatty.
Other trees start at $32 and range upward to $140 for trees suitable for homes with vaulted cielings.
Beatty noted that there are other Christmas tree lots in the Morongo Basin with lower prices, but the Joshua Tree Rotary Club’s lot has established a reputation over their years of having full, fresh trees.
“I’m not trying to sell the cheapest tree,” Beatty said. “I’m trying to sell a quality tree.”
Profits from the annual tree sales have supported scholarships to Basin high schools, the Joshua Tree Kids Club, Unity Home, Panorama Ranch and the local branch of the county library.
Other recipients of Joshua Tree Rotary Club’s benevolence include Desert Music Foundation, Copper Mountain College nursing students, Shoes That Fit and numerous private organizations and causes including helping fund youth study trips like Tech Trek.
The lot is open from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends through Christmas or until they sell out.
It is located at 61877 Twentynine Palms Highway, east of B.R. Body Piercing, formerly Thee Ink Cup. Owners Brenda and Ricky Reyes have been donating their vacant real estate to the fund-raiser for several years.
