Reader’s letter: Section is cared for, not trashed
Far from being trashed, the Landaus’ gift to this community is alive and well, and recovering nicely from the fire. Thank you kindly, Mr. Russell M. Drake, for your concern.
After reading Mr. Drake’s Hi-Desert Star Guest Soapbox Oct. 6, I too was concerned, and a bit suspicious, so I took a trip up the hill to see for myself.
More and more readers of this publication are becoming aware of the sad fact that, in their zeal to foster support for their hatred, our anti-OHV neighbors often exaggerate and misstate the truth.
The Town will be happy to know that the gifted property, Section 11, just north of Brust’s Wrecking, is perfectly fine and the only thing getting trashed is the off-road community.
I wish everyone would check it out for themselves. Go to Aberdeen and Sage and look southwest across the burn. It’s the same view as the picture in Drake’s article.
Mr. Drake says, “Probably nowhere else can ORV destruction be seen so clearly.”
What I saw clearly is land being properly taken care of. You’ll see evidence of a drag having been used to level the unavoidable ruts acquired during firefighting activity.
You will also see a surprisingly beautiful piece of property considering that thousands of people cross it daily and have been doing so for many, many years.
State Highway 246 runs right through the middle of it, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see any “nesting red-tailed hawks and great-horned owls” as Mr. Drake suggests you should.
Sensationalism is one thing. Egg on your face is quite another.
