JOSHUA TREE — The Art Queen in association with Queer Salon is hosting film, art, dance, fashion and music events, all free, throughout June for Pride.
Events will take place at the Art Queen Complex and Sun Alley at 61855 Twentynine Palms Highway.
A photo talk and exhibit of live portraits takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
The film “Call Her Ganda” about a transwoman’s murder that leads to a political uprising will be screened from 8 to 10 p.m. A Q&A session follows.
The Art Queen will host several events for Gay Pride Weekend June 29-30.
On June 29, “Stonewall 50!” starts at 6:30 p.m. with introductory remarks. A Gay Pride fashion show begins at 6:45 p.m. with fashions curated by Dusty Deserette.
Jeff Hafler and the Wonder People perform music from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Short films will be screened from 8:30 to 10 p.m., including “Hubby/Wifey” by Ebersole, Hughes and Anderson and “Lez in Wonderland: Dinah Shore Weekend” by Anna Margarita Albelo. Taco plates and date refreshments will be sold.
June 30: This is the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. The film “Tom of Finland” by Dome Karukoski will be screened from 8 to 10 p.m. followed by Q&A. There will be free popcorn. Taco plates and date refreshments will be sold.
