Pedestrian hit and killed in Yucca Valley

YUCCA VALLEY— A man was struck and killed Wednesday evening while trying to cross Twentynine Palms Highway.

Barney Brown, 79, attempted to cross the highway west of Grand Avenue on foot at 6:16 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound Dodge Dakota pickup truck, driven by Velta Garcia, 67, of Yucca Valley.

Brown was a resident of British Columbia, Canada. He was visiting the area with family for the King of the Hammers event, Sgt. Randy Warfield with the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station said Wednesday.

Eastbound traffic was blocked off on Twentynine Palms Highway at Grand Ave Wednesday evening as sheriff’s deputies investigated the death.

The collision is being investigated by the sheriff's department.

    New lighting would make it difficult to see all the starry nights and you do understand stars are more important then the walking public...

    Another one bites the dust on 29 Palms hiway. My opinion only, as many people whom have been killed lately on the hiway. Maybe Mark Nuaimi should donate his raise for lighting on the hiway so people can be seen at night seeing how dangerous it is to cross our hiway. Then maybe you could say " then maybe Mark would be doing something good for this towns people!
