Elected members unofficially take oath

Elected members of the town of Yucca Valley are sworn in Tuesday.

YUCCA VALLEY — The county required the full 30 days to officially provide certified election results for the town’s three council seats, but on Tuesday night Congressman Paul Cook and Assemblyman Chad Mayes gave the oath of office to returning council members Merl Abel and Rick Denison and new member Jim Schooler.

“You are now sworn in unofficially,” Cook said.

The official swearing in of new council members and selection of the new mayor will be held during a special Town Council meeting at 5 p.m. Friday in the Yucca Room of the community center.
