YUCCA VALLEY — One man is dead and another is in jail after a shooting near Barron Drive and Hermosa Avenue Thursday afternoon.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and fire crews responded to a call of shots fired in Paradise Valley and found Martin Solomon Reyes Sr., 35, of Yucca Valley, with gunshot wounds around 1:30 p.m.

Reyes was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center, where he died an hour later.

Witnesses described a suspect who fled the scene. After a search for an armed man near El Dorado Avenue, deputies found 19-year-old Brian Cline, of Yucca Valley, on the roof of a home in the 58000 block of Paxton Road.

A man who called himself Chris lives next door to where Cline was found hiding. He said he witnessed the police standoff.

“I had a direct line of sight to him,” he said. “I was on my computer and looked up and saw him lying there on the roof of the neighbor’s house. He was right next to the swamp cooler and it looked like he was passed out. One of the cops was coming by and they yelled at him to get down or they would shoot.”

The neighbor said Cline got down from the roof and was immediately tackled by deputies.

Cline was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail on a murder charge, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Cpl. Jim Thornburg, with the county sheriff’s department, said at the scene Thursday that narcotics officers happened to be in the area at the time of the incident and helped in the search and arrest.

A murder investigation is being handled by San Bernardino County homicide investigators.

Not knowing what happened with this situation leads me to not comment on it, I will comment on desert lilly making the insane comment against guns or the NRA.
THE NRA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the misuse of guns by criminals anymore than they are for the Boston bombers or the man who stabbed 4 people in a Cattholic church the other day.
There are a multitude of ways that people can kill each other, just as there are a multitude of ways some Americans can blindly give up their constitutional rights.
Millions of Americans fought and DIED to prerserve our rights, this includes our right to free speech or the right to keep and bear arms.
I wish people would stop and think about that before making statements that are NOT CORRECT just to make themselves feel better or superior.

"Those who would give up freedoms for a little temporary safety deserve neither."
That powerful and thought provoking quote came from Ben Franklin and is just as true today as it was when he said it.

So much for that one good guy with a gun for every bad guy with a gun. Looks like we are going to need a ratio of 15 to 1 and then there will still be just as many murders with guns.

Welcome to America. Where the NRA is revoking the right to life, one shooting at a time. But they are getting rich beyond belief, so numbskull Americans will keep right on tailoring the law so their children get killed. Nice. Sweet. Gotta love Americans.

RD, I have news for the town manager, Yucca Valley, or any of the other local areas where NEVER a crime ridden anything, up until whichever Realtor is was, put Yucca on the internet and began to sale to anything with the cash they were asking. THAT is when our communities became the ghettos we are getting today...
    progress? you can keep it........

I discussed the conditions around the PARADISE VALLEY neighborhood and the park here with the town manager, deputy town manager, captain and lieutenant just last month. I was told that there was going to be special attention given to this area of town ... I believe they said there was to be an officer stationed over here.

I wasn't able to convince our town manager that there is a need for him and our council to begin to pay more attention to this area of town. When discussing the dangerous traffic conditions he responded by asking me if I didn't know what I was getting when I bought my home and moved here. I was stunned he would make such a comment and told him that I'd work to make my neighborhood every bit as safe as the SKY HARBOR nighborhood and expected my town council to respond to my concerns.

The problem is that the town council and our town manager don't care about some parts of town. They don't have to. The town council is elected "at large" rather than by district. And apparently the town manager keeps them "updated" on what they need to concern themselves with. And that, I guess - what he wants them to concern themselves with - would be projects like the SKY HARBOR dog park and such which he can tout as his accomplishments on his resume after he leaves for another job and much of our town is in a shambles.
