With kids’ art on walls, gallery plans scholarship auction

Eighth grader Hailey Weiss isn't a Yucca Valley High School Trojan yet, but she will be. In anticipation, she has painted "Trojan Pride."

JOSHUA TREE — Gallery 62 held a reception for some of the Morongo Basin’s youngest artists Sunday afternoon as it opened its kids’ art show. Many of the featured artists stopped by to find out if they won any prizes and to pose for pictures next to their art.

In the Signature Gallery, the youngest artists are showing, with grade levels ranging from first to third.

The Lobby Gallery features the work of kids in grades four through eight.

Galley 62 will host an auction of works donated by some of its adult regulars during Downtown Nights from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 11. Proceeds will benefit two art scholarships from the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council.

The children’s art will also be available for purchase.

Gallery 62 is at 61607 Twentynine Palms Highway, Suite H.
