GATE kids hit summer with Kaleidoscope of learning

Gate students make their own ice cream during Kaleidoscope Days.

Students in the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program learned everything from French to first aid during Kaleidoscope Days June 17-27 at La Contenta Middle School. Kids in grades three through nine participated.

Kids used training dummies to learn CPR and first aid from Travis Mahan, and made masks profile portraits and tinfoil sculptures in a “painting plus” class taught by Susan Henry.

They learned debate from Jorge Fuentes and French from JoAnn Herrera, who also helped them bake croissants.

They also took classes in robotics by Joseph Borges, science, art and math by Jenny Cavelti and string art by Jake Possehl.
