YUCCA VALLEY --— Sheriff’s deputies believe a shoe repair shop in the Von’s Shopping Center, in the 57500 block of Twentynine Palms Highway, was serving as a front for an illegal gambling operation.

A person was arrested and 19 computers and more than $1,000 was seized in the raid which began at about 7:52 p.m. Thursday.

Shane Neuman, 49, of Joshua Tree, was arrested. Investigators believe he facilitated gambling at the shop. He was later cited and released and does not yet have a court date scheduled in the matter.

Other subjects at the location were arrested for outstanding warrants and various other charges.

Deputies from the Morongo Basin station were joined by members of the Yucca Valley Multiple Enforcement Team in serving the search warrant on the business.

Problem Oriented Policing is s specialized position within the town of Yucca Valley’s law enforcement unit. Sheriff’s detective Emanuel Popa and deputy Robert Stucki are assigned to these full-time positions.

Their primary purpose  is to find solutions to law enforcement issues within town limits. The positions are funded by the town of Yucca Valley through Measure Y.
