MORONGO VALLEY — There was plenty of summer still in the air for the Fall Fiesta at Covington Park Saturday. Warm weather and blue skies were part of a perfect day of old-fashioned fun, with a pancake breakfast, a crowd-pleasing parade, a prize-winning pet show and water slide.
There was also a petting zoo, mule rides, music, kid’s crafts in the Children’s Library, an art show in the gallery, vendors with jewelry, quilts, clothing and other hand crafted items, plus special guest Sparky the Firehouse Dog.
And no one went hungry. There was a pancake breakfast by the firefighters auxiliary, carne asada by the Trailriders Association for lunch, an ice cream social by the Hummingbird Moon Lodge and a spaghetti dinner courtesy of Rattlesnake Jake’s.
“Virtually every organization in Morongo Valley collaborated to make this a day of family fun in Park,” said Community Services Director Meg Foley.
That list includes the chamber of commerce, Golden State Water Company, the Youth Commission, Hummingbird Moon Lodge, Church of the Lighted Cross, Morongo Basin Human Society, Rattlesnake Jake’s Restaurant, Genuine Draft Ranch, Firefighter’s Auxiliary, Fire Safe Council, Morongo Valley Trailriders Association, Youth Sports League, Old Car Club of Morongo Basin, Vintage Iron of Yucca Valley, Friends of the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, the CSD, the Morongo Valley Fire Department and the fire department’s Explorer Post 461.
