Gina Marie Winiecki, a 36-year resident of Wonder Valley, passed away April 2, 2019, at the age of 56, in her home with loved ones by her side.
She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Jan. 8, 1963, and grew up in Hawthorne, participating in Girl Scouts and sports. She was a talented athlete in soccer and softball. She also made All Stars in the Wiseburn School District. Gina graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1981. She and Wayne Winiecki moved to Wonder Valley after they were married on Feb. 18, 1984.
Her employment in Twentynine Palms included waitressing in various restaurants and working in the hospitality industry. She was active in the community, volunteering with Action 29 Palms and assisting with the annual Chalkfest. In 2011 she was recognized as the G.E.M. award recipient for her volunteer work. She also assisted with organizing the student awards for the elementary school.
Gina enjoyed the beach, swimming, camping, roller skating, music and art. She loved spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered and missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ron Kostiszak; her grandmother, Freda Margaret Terry; and her grandfather, John Anselmo.
Gina is survived by her husband, Wayne Winiecki; her mother, Maria DeLangis; her sister, Terrie Lewis, her husband, Mark Lewis, and her nephew, Michael Lewis; and her sister, Lisa Kostiszak, and Lisa’s husband, Brian McElroy.
A celebration of life service and reception will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Elks Lodge No. 2134, 6501 Barranca St., Twentynine Palms.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to support a youth scholarship fund in Gina’s memory to support the summer youth arts and youth sports programs through the city of Twentynine Palms Parks & Recreation Department.
