June Stone, a resident of Yucca Valley since 2003, died April 18, 2019, at Ingleside Lodge in Yucca Valley. She was 92 years old.
Born Sept. 10, 1926, in Los Angeles, she graduated from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in 1944 and graduated from Long Beach City College.
June married George H. Stone in Los Angeles on Oct. 11, 1946. She later lived in Lakewood until she decided to move to Yucca Valley with her daughter and son-in-law in 2003.
She was previously employed by Firestone Tires in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Public Library System, working at the George Nye Library in Lakewood.
She is survived by her daughter Judy Price, of Yucca Valley, her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Stone and Demetria Goodwin, of Lakewood, and a granddaughter, Ebony Stone, of Quitman, Georgia. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Stone, in 1994, her mother and father, Gladys (Tygerson) Horsley and Rulon E. Horsley, her brother, Dale Horsley, and her son-in-law, Danny Price.
Before moving to Yucca Valley, June was active in women’s sports, bowling and going to the gym to work out. She enjoyed doing crossword and sudoku puzzles and reading. She continued with her puzzles until she could no longer do so.
After moving to Yucca Valley, she was a member of Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel, where she enjoyed participating in women’s ministry activities, baking cookies for church on Sunday and served on the Prayer Chain Ministry. She enjoyed attending women’s Bible study on Tuesday mornings.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Nancy Eubanks and the staff at Ingleside Lodge for their love and care of Mom for the past six years. Their dedication to the residents of Ingleside was most certainly appreciated during her entire stay time there, but most recently during the final weeks of her life.
A celebration of life has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Prayer Garden at Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel, 57373 Joshua Lane, Yucca Valley.
