Hazel passed away peacefully Sept. 9, 2012, in Riverside under hospice care at her daughter’s home. She was born in Allamakee County, Iowa, April 8, 1919, to Leroy Vernon Johnson and Ruth Bell Ralston Johnson. She attended country school and then high school in Waukon, Iowa. She married Dell Ferguson of McGregor, Iowa, and had two children.
She came to California in 1942 to work in an aircraft factory for the war effort, bringing her two children with her. She was a riveter on the Black Widow airplane.
She had two loves. First was full-time RVing with her partner, Les Loyd, which they did for 12 years. Second was living in the desert, raising chickens and growing pomegranates for making jelly.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald D. Ferguson, brothers Levi and Harrison and sister Mary. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Sharon Meyers (Robert), her brothers, Milbourn Johnson (Marcella) and Orville Johnson, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She requested cremation and no services. She was a great lady. Many thanks to the Charter Hospice of Colton.
