David Eckenroth, a lifelong resident of California and a 59-year resident of Yucca Valley, died peacefully at his home on June 23, 2019.
Dave and his wife, Val, moved to Yucca Valley in 1960 with their three children, Debby, David and Dana. They purchased Foremost Men’s Wear and later renamed it David’s Store for Men and Boys.
Dave and Val were always active in the Yucca Valley, community serving on the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Jaycees, Hi-Desert swim team and much more.
Sailing was one of Dave’s favorite hobbies and he owned several sailboats throughout the years.
After retiring, Dave and Val joined the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP), and for 20 years traveled across the U.S. helping to build and repair churches, Christian camps, youth centers, etc.
Dave was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 65 years, Val, and his daughter, Debby Ann Thornton.
He is survived by his sons, David (Karen) Eckenroth, of Yucca Valley, and Dana (Rene) Eckenroth, of Ramona; and five grandchildren, D.C. Eckenroth and Jesse (Shannon) Eckenroth, of Yucca Valley, Camille (Shawn) Chappell, of Coeur d’Alene, Sage Eckenroth, of Ramona, and Galen (Niki) Eckenroth, of Ensenada, Mexico.
He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren.
Dave was a hard worker and very generous person — willing to help anyone in need. He spent thousands of hours volunteering his time and resources helping others. His family was most important to him and he always enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them.
His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ enabled him to look forward to hearing those special words, “Well done, good and faithful servant … come and share your master’s happiness.”
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel in Yucca Valley. All are welcome to attend.
