Andre Marcel Melanson, a native of Yucca Valley and a four-year resident of Bakersfield, died at his Bakersfield home from colon cancer on April 28, 2019. He was 54 years old.
The son of Roger S. Melanson and Marilyn (Moon) Melanson, he was born March 20, 1965, in Yucca Valley. Mr. Melanson was a graduate of Yucca Valley High School and a resident of California for his entire life, except when he was serving overseas.
He was a career military man, retired from the U.S. Air Force. He served 10 years of active duty in the USAF and another 10 years in the USAF Reserves while working full-time in the medical wing at March Air Reserve Base.
Andre’s pastimes were listening and appreciating music and watching films.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn (Moon) Melanson, in 1975; his father, Roger Melanson, in 2010; his sister Melanie (Grace, Melanson) McHorney, in 2019; his brother Michel Melanson, in 1986; and his younger brother, Brett Melanson, in 1979.
He is survived by his sister Denise (Melanson) Wade, of Rangely, Colorado; and his brothers Daniel Melanson, of Simi Valley, Marc Melanson, of Cathedral City, and Tim Melanson, of Bakersfield. He is also survived by various nieces and nephews.
Andre would like to thank his friends Sharon and Theresa for a lifetime of laughs as well as his many fellow service people and friends from the USAF.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Saint Mary of the Valley Church, 7495 Church Street, Yucca Valley, CA 92284.
Andre’s remains will be interred near his father Roger at the Riverside National Veterans’ Cemetery. This service will be private to only family.
