Carol Allsup, a longtime resident of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, died March 12, 2019, at the California Rehab Center in Palm Springs.
The daughter of Helen L. Lewis and Eugene Braun, she was born in Yakima, Washington.
She was a graduate of Yakima Sr. High School and attended the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon, though she did not graduate.
She moved to San Fransisco in 1960 and worked for many years as an executive secretary at the headquarters of Crown Zellerbach Paper Company. During that time, she took a leave of absence and served as a VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) volunteer assigned to Atlanta, Georgia.
She moved from the Bay Area to Joshua Tree in 1977, and moved to Yucca Valley in 1991, residing there until 2019. She moved to Sky Harbor Care Center in 2014.
Retired, her most recent employment was with the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services in the Senior Information and Referral Office of Yucca Valley. She worked there for 10 years.
She was a member of the Friends of the Yucca Valley Library and was a past president of the Friends of the Joshua Tree Library. She was a member of the Yucca Valley Senior Club, had been on the Yucca Valley Senior Club Council and was a volunteer manager of their thrift room.
She was a patron of Hospice of the Morongo Basin.
She is survived by four nephews and one niece: Thaddus Braun, Thomas Braun, Toby Braun, Tyler Braun and Christine Hall.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and her only sibling, her brother, Thomas Braun.
