Thousands of people, some of them off-road motorcycle racers, some of them fans of the sport, will descend on the Morongo Basin this weekend for this year’s Hilltoppers Motorcycle Club races Saturday and Sunday at the 29 Palms Motorsports Complex east of downtown Twentynine Palms.
This will mean a potentially bountiful harvest for Morongo Basin merchants who are able to convince some of those visitors to pause on their way in or out of town or to venture off of the motorsports complex grounds sometime during the weekend.
Gas stations will obviously benefit from the boom but, with a little bit of effort, so will restaurants, gift shops and anyone selling camping supplies, from propane to fire wood, and anyone selling mementos of a visit to Twentynine Palms.
The harvest begins simply, by giving our visitors a sign they are welcome in the Morongo Basin and in your place of business, by offering discounts to those coming in for the annual races and by providing information about all the other things they can do in the area this weekend and in the weekends to come.
This harvest is one that can be reaped not only this weekend but every weekend when thousands of people flock to the Morongo Basin to visit the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park.
The harvest is plentiful, what we need are workers.
