Donald Trump is a cheat, a con man and a scam artist who believes he can fool enough of the American voting public to be re-elected. Sadly he may be right.
Despite the several instances of obstruction of justice clearly defined in the Mueller report, he is committing obstruction in plain view by refusing to comply with valid subpoenas issued by the congressional oversight committees in the House of Representatives. The oversight responsibility of Congress is clearly defined in the Constitution and is one of the most vital of the “checks and balances” that insure American democracy can endure.
Despite these obvious “High Crimes and Misdemeanors,” the Republicans in Congress refuse to acknowledge his betrayal of the office of the presidency. His malfeasance and abuse of power, not to mention appointing corrupt people to cabinet level office, are clearly a danger to American democracy.
In a recent temper tantrum in the rose garden he proclaimed he will not consider any legislation until Congress stops investigating his administration. The president of the United States is on strike! He is refusing to do his job unless Congress agrees not to do their job. Attempting to blackmail Congress into submitting to his will is one more instance of Trump moving toward an imperial presidency.
Fortunately, the third branch of government defined in the Constitution has the final say on these matters. Federal judges have struck down his specious claims of executive privilege on two attempts at hiding his financial dealing with banks and his personal accounting firm. This has struck fear in his black heart that it is all starting to unravel.
Be it by impeachment or election defeat, this long national nightmare must end. The future of American democracy is at stake.
