Park would take away privileges

The Dale Mining District or “The Saddle”: I’ve lived out here over 30 years, in Wonder Valley, and my opinion is that this area should be left as is. The park itself has so many thousands of acres, yet only a small portion of the park is used by the public.

I’m a recreational miner and I love the area. A lot of other people do, too, and a lot of clubs have claims in this area. As I said, I live in Wonder Valley. I live on a road that turns into wilderness area at the north end. I’m appalled at this area being a wilderness area. Who can use it? My grandchildren can’t use it. Handicapped people can’t use this area. Who can? Only long-distance hikers.

I am really against the park taking over the Dale Mining District area. I have heard that the park can take this area and still leave it accessible for mining, off-roading, camping, etc. My opinion is that once the park has their foot in the door, these privileges would be lost.

Yeah, pretty much the same way it has been for thousands of years, except that now it is all torn up by drunks and treasure hunters. Ain't America great! We are #1 in tearing it up!

Sorry all of your grandchildren are crippled, Ted. My sympathies.

The Dale Mining District and Gold Park were designated for public use. It is but a small population that actually use the land but it is free for everyone and anyone. It is not a tourist attraction and would be immediately subjected to regulation if the National Park Service were to take possession. In my opinion it is not anyone's land to take or to give away. It simply is what it was designated: public use, which includes off-roading, atv's, dirt bikes, hiking (with dogs), shooting, hunting, geo-cacheing, prospecting, mining, or just plain "gettin out there".

The land remains pretty much the way it always has been, as the public polices its own out there with little to no oversight from the Bureau of Land Management.

I believe every citizen should make their voice know that this is OUR land and not to be given away or turned over to ANYONE. Speak up outdoorsmen or you'll only enjoy these activities from what you can view on television.
