As we all know, Mara Cantelo, founder of Tender Loving Christmas passed away on Sept. 11, 2017. It was always Mara’s wish to provide a meal for children and adults and gifts to children each year. Mara felt that no one should be alone at any time, especially when family should be together to celebrate the holidays.

There are many families and individuals in our community who go without food, shelter and daily essentials due to a variety of factors including low wages, job loss, injuries, illness, age, domestic violence or divorce. For these reasons, a group decided to make Mara’s wish come true and continue the holiday event. We did just that on Christmas Day 2017! This was truly a community event!

On the day of the celebration we served approximately 1,525 individuals with a quality Christmas meal. In addition, Santa provided 450 gift bags to each boy and girl with at least four toys. The number of volunteers exceeded 231. All the extra food was distributed to the food banks and families attending the celebration.

There were many organizations and individuals who provided financial and volunteer support to this event. We were extremely pleased for your support in providing the essential services for the celebration. Your contribution made a significant difference in our efforts to serve those who needed our support in such a short time frame!

Meals and food were provided by Bruce’s Coyote Kitchen, Hawk’s Landing and the Way Station. Supplies and other support were provided by Home Depot, Stater Bros., Wal-Mart, U-Haul Trucks, Burrtec Waste Disposal, Desert Images, VIP Printing, Hi-Desert Publishing, CPG, Yucca Valley High School students, local firefighters and their spouses, Z107.7 FM, Starbucks, Sizzler, Morongo Basin Ambulance, Yucca Valley Citizens Patrol, Santa Claus and the town of Yucca Valley and all their incredible staff. We appreciate all who made this event a huge success. Thank you for being a wonderful partner.

We thank you for your incredible support!
