Many congratulations to Congressman Paul Cook on receiving his “Angel on Earth” award for his work on veterans’ legislation. I am certain your Morongo Basin constituents would like to praise you in person at a town meeting and to also use the opportunity to articulate some of the concerns we have about the new administration. A Twitter town hall meeting is inadequate as non-Twitter users are precluded from asking questions. We want to communicate the old fashioned way — face to face.

I have been unable to find evidence of a town hall meeting  — Twitter or in person — since June 2015. Congressman Cook, it’s time.

Don't hold your breath. Jerry Lewis, Col. Cook's predecessor, held a TH meeting in Redland's in August 2009, when Teabaggers were the rage, unfortunately for Lewis it didn't go well. He took a lot of heat for his position on health care, receiving jeers and obscenities from part of an overflow crowd.

There is little chance Cook will hold a TH meeting. For starters, he said he will not run for re-election in 2018. He also has serious health concerns, and though I don't agree with many of his positions, it would be hard to see him take on a room full of angry constituents, knowing the stress would be deleterious to his health.

You have a great idea otherwise. One can only hope a strong candidate from this Bible and bullets district emerges to challenge the GOP in 2018. Maybe Chad Mayes can conduct a TH meeting in the near future, so he can get a feel for what he will face when he runs for the 8th District seat.
