Trojans hold up the coveted Kiwanis Club Bell after winning it back from Twentynine Palms High School Friday, Nov. 1, in Twentynine Palms.

TWENTYNINE PALMS — After 14 years of frustration the Yucca Valley High School varsity football team, with help from a stingy defense and two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter to reclaim the coveted Kiwanis Club Bell from Twentynine Palms High School.

The Trojans beat the Wildcats 21-6 on the Wildcats’ home turf, Tom Nicoll Memorial Stadium Friday, Nov. 1, in a game which left the home crowd stunned and visiting Yucca Valley fans storming the field to be part of the moment when the Trojans reclaimed the bell.

After a scoreless first quarter the Trojans opened scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass, on 4th down, with 7:19 to go in the half, giving the Trojans a 7-0 lead.

That score lasted until late in the second quarter when the Wildcats drove deep into Trojan territory and scored on a short touchdown pass in a play that began with two tenths of a second left on the clock.

The point after attempt, however, failed, leaving the Wildcats trailing 7-6 going into halftime.

The Trojans dominated the second half, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter and holding their hosts scoreless to reclaim the coveted bell.

The win gives the Trojans a 7-0 Desert Valley League record and sole ownership of first place.

The loss gives the Wildcats a 4-3 league mark, fourth place.

Joshua Springs without a team for a few years and Yucca is back... I always thought that was the issue for the once mighty TROJANS!!! Congratulations!!!

Your stance that JS was taking talent from YVHS is laughable. Over the years JS has fielded some dominate squads in the 8-man realm, but has produced a handful of players that could have impacted larger programs. YV is pulling in more students from outside the basin with talent, a simple review of the player roster supports this statement. Years ago I witnessed a pathetic instance of running the score up at a JS playoff game against Baker. It was a joke until a 160 lb. kid from Baker got rolled by a JS linemen, then it became a travesty. Kid blow out a knee, losing 60-0. YVHS competes in a very weak league, but have improved a great deal from the days of fielding a defense of arm tacklers.

You know whats more laughable then that ?

8 man sissyball ...err..ummm football I mean.

What a joke!

Trojans won the bell?......the end of the world is near! Repent!

Congrats YV Trojans on winning back The Bell this year. Good job! Good luck in the playoffs too.

On a side note, I prefer watching football played the way it was originally intended to be played, with 11 players on both sides of the ball. Eight-man football is akin to watching wet paint dry IMO. 😂
