Yucca wrestling pins the competition

Varsity wrestler, Tim Harris, competes in the 126 wight class for Yucca Valley. Harris won his match againt Indio High School.

YUCCA VALLEY — The Yucca Valley High School wrestling teams had an eventful seven days, traveling to Banning High School Nov. 30 and hosting Indio High School Wednesday night in the Trojan gym.

The Trojans lost 69-12 at Banning. John Cruz, Tim Harris, Angel Torres, Chase Sperry and Malaky Chiu all won their matches by pins.

The fastest pin of the night was made by John Cruz in 0.22 second.

Onkar Sandhu also had an impressive match, defeating Masters qualifier Brandon Ceja 8-2. Sandhu narrowly missed winning by a pin as time ran out in the second period.

The Trojans wrestlers were back in the game Wednesday night in the YVHS gym and lost to Indio High School 51-30.

“The Trojan wrestlers lost a tough-fought varsity dual,” said head coach Lawrence Giron.

The first victory of the night went to Tiffany Bartels for the girls team, with a pin.

Cruz, Harris and Chiu quickly followed Bartel’s lead and won their matches and Sandhu took the fastest pin of the night in 1:07.

The Trojans will travel to Desert Hot Springs on Wednesday for their next league match.
