Tri-Valley softball minors head to state

The Tri-Valley minor softball team moves on to state after playing District 24, Pachappa, out of Riverside June 29.

YUCCA VALLEY — The Tri-Valley Little League all-star minor softball team is heading to state competition this weekend after winning sectionals last week.

“We’re the Section 9 champions,” said head coach Melissa Nelson. “The girls played really well and are excited to be moving on.”

The girls traveled down the hill last weekend for two days of competition against Pachappa Little League of Riverside from District 24.

“We won both games,” said Nelson.

The Tri-Valley team secured the first win 17-1 and the second 15-0.

Keyla Nelson pitched both of the games and Aubrey Nelson was the catcher. Nelson said they led the team but it was a group effort by all of the girls, who succeeded by working together.

The team will travel to Westchester this weekend to take on the winners of the Section 5 championship. This will be the team’s first game in a double-elimination tournament that will determine the winners of the statewide competition. Six teams will be competing for the title.
