YUCCA VALLEY — Trojan pitcher Felicia Gonzales silenced the Rams’ bats as the Lady Trojan softball team beat Desert Mirage in a five-inning game, 13-2, Thursday, May 3.

Gonzales sent the Rams away empty handed in all but the third inning, when she hit a Ram batter and a home run put the only Desert Mirage scores on the board.

The Trojan offense backed up Gonzales’ effort, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first.

Teresa Nava led off with a single and the next batter, Miranda Huerta, tried to sacrifice her to second, but her bunt was too good and the Trojans had runners on for Lindsay Sullivan. Sullivan battered a Ram offering for a home run to left-center field, scoring Nava and Huerta to give Dennis Priest’s team all the runs they would need. Rebecca Erickson also rounded the bases in the first inning on a line shot down the left-field line for a homer.

Yucca Valley added 9 runs in the bottom of the third and it was game over in the fifth, as the Rams trailed by more than 10 runs.

Shelby Smith was tabbed by coach Dennis Priest as Trojan of the Week for her efforts in the week of April 23 -27.

The Trojan junior varsity girls also beat Desert Mirage 10-0 Thursday.

Next up is Big Bear at Big Bear at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8.
