SAN PEDRO — The Trojan baseball team traveled 140 miles to collar the Rolling Hills Prep Huskies, winning 7-3 in round one of the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs.
“Senior Brandon Goodpaster was dominant again on the mound, pitching six shutout innings and the Trojans played their best game all year, offensively and defensively,” head coach Josh Griswold said.
Senior Clay Smith led the Trojan batters, getting three hits and three RBIs in four at-bats. Junior Braden Brimhall and sophomores Noah Morones and Seth Snead notched two hits each. Goodpaster and junior Kris Brady both drove in runs.
On defense, first baseman Hayden Higgins put out five Huskies and Brimhall put out three behind the plate.
Goodpaster got the win on the mound, facing 29 batters, striking out four and allowing two walks and three earned runs.
The win gives the Trojans a home game for round two. They will host the Rialto Knights at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Yucca Valley High School.
The Knights went 15-10 overall and 8-7 to take third in the San Andreas League. They beat Buckley High School in Sherman Oaks 3-2 Thursday to qualify for the second round.
