YUCCA VALLEY — The Trojan varsity boys soccer team took a rain-soaked 3-1 victory against the Banning Broncos Tuesday night.
With rain pouring down on the stadium starting mid-game, the Trojans used solid teamwork to soak the Broncs.
Junior midfielder Alan Campos scored first for Yucca Valley High School, followed by sophomore Tyler Sine on an assist by sophomore Carlos Rodriguez-Santos.
Freshman Landon Gradilla marked his varsity debut with the final goal.
Senior captain Kyler Harlow was also recognized by head coach Jorge Rodriguez for his leadership and winning attitude.
“This is a team victory,” Rodriguez said. “Everyone contributed and the results show it.”
Junior varsity managed to tie at 1-1 against Banning, despite having no subs and only 10 players on the field.
Freshman Joseph Garcia repeated his success from the season’s first game against the Broncos, scoring the Trojans’ only goal.
Senior Brody Arnold was recognized by coach Adan Mendoza for keeping a level head and playing a strong defense.
“I’m very happy with the team’s performance,” Mendoza said. “We entered the field at a disadvantage, having only 10 players. We did better than expected.”
The Trojans will travel to Indio today to play the Rajahs, with junior varsity starting at 3:15 p.m. and varsity at 5.
