BEAUMONT — Two 9-year-old Morongo Basin equestrians, Khloe Murphy and Kaylin Moon, won their divisions at a regional gymkhana last month.

Khloe, who lives in Joshua Tree, rode Sunshine The Wonder Pony and Kaylin, who lives in Yucca Valley, rode Pearl in the California State Horsemen’s Association Region 11 gymkhana in Beaumont June 8.

With the help of their trainer, Heather Moon, Khloe placed first in the 7 junior division while Kaylin placed 1st in the junior open division.

This is Khloe’s second year of competing and Kaylin’s third. Kaylin and Sunshine, the horse she rode last season, are now the reigning 7 junior champions.

“These best friends dedicate many hours to caring for, loving and riding their ponies in hopes of one day becoming barrel racing champions.
