YUCCA VALLEY — Senior Haley Smith threw a no-hitter to lead the Yucca Valley varsity softball team past Desert Hot Springs 10-0 Monday.
Smith went five innings before the refs called the game, striking out 11 Golden Eagles and walking one.
The Trojan batters got eight hits and 10 runs on the DHS pitcher. Smith led with three hits in four at-bats.
Up 4-0, the Yucca Valley girls widened their lead with five runs in the fourth inning. Smith, sophomore Brianna Etter and senior Stefani Huff each had RBIs.
The girls ran wild on the base paths, stealing 11 over the game with Max Wheeler taking four.
The Trojans didn’t commit a single error on defense. Huff made the most plays with six.
Now 6-1 and in first place in the Desert Valley League, the Trojans have one more match against Desert Hot Springs as they host them at 3:15 p.m. today at Yucca Valley.
After this week, they will face three more teams in conference play: Cathedral City (0-7, last place), Desert Mirage (2-6, seventh place) and finally Twentynine Palms (3-4, fifth place).
JV girls now 7-0 in league
The junior varsity Lady Trojans protected their undefeated record with a 14-6 victory over Desert Hot Springs Monday.
Briana Adams led with two hits and two runs in two plate appearances. Lili Rodriguez and Alanna Brady got three runs with two RBI each.
The girls stole 17 bases in the match, led by Brady, who took five.
No fielding errors dinged the Trojan record and Shannon Batts racked up five put-outs.
Trinity Dudra and Sarah Krenelka shared pitching with Dudra getting credit for the win. Each girl struck out two.
