TWENTYNINE PALMS — Twentynine Palms High School varsity soccer player Emma Yeager, a senior this year, has committed to attending and playing soccer for Alma College, a private liberal arts and sciences school in Alma, Michigan.

Yeager and her parents, including her coach/father Rick Yeager, took part in a brief ceremony, in which she signed her letter of intent to attend the school, in the Richard Casey Memorial Gym on the Wildcat campus just after noon Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Before the ceremony she said she intends to study physical therapy at the school.

“They have a really nice campus,” she said of the reason for her choice of the school. “It’s not too peopley so it fits my needs.”

According to its website, the school serves about 1,450 students from 30 states and eight foreign countries. The average class size is 18 students and the student-to-faculty ratio is 12 to 1.

The school embraces its Scottish heritage with bagpipes featured at every formal ceremony from the welcoming convocation through commencement. The school’s Kiltie Dancers offer classes in Highland Dance and the entire marching band is outfitted in kilts.

He post-college plans include going directly into the work force or taking an internship.

“Wherever life takes me, I guess,” she said.

Before the Wednesday, Feb. 7, game against Desert Hot Springs, Yeager logged 1,460 minutes in 18 games for the varsity Wildcats this season. She led the team offensively and defensively by scoring nine goals and four assists and recording 79 steals and two checks. During the season she took 41 shots at the opponents’ goals.

She and fellow senior Hannah Valls serve as captains of the varsity squad. She has played on the varsity squad all four years at Twentynine Palms High School.
