Finnlee and Asher Reynoso visit Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

TWENTYNINE PALMS — Dinner, food, toys and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were all on the agenda when the Twentynine Palms and Indio Elks lodges played host to 15 Marine families Sunday, Dec. 2.

Families gathered at the Twentynine Palms Elks Lodge on Twentynine Palms Highway at Elk Trail.

They enjoyed a dinner of turkey, ham, vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy and rolls.

They were also invited to take home bags of food, including potatoes, onions, oranges, brought by members of the Indio lodge.

Each child went home with a wrapped toy.

Before dinner began children whet their appetites on Elks Lodge popcorn and visited Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Twentynine Palms Exalted Ruler Gary Link noted that this is the third year for the dinner, it was started by the Indio lodge which invited the Twentynine Palms lodge to take part and provide a home for the event which would be easier to get to for Marine families serving in Twentynine Palms.

The Armed Services YMCA, Link said, provides Elks with a list of families to invite to the dinner.

“We go out to try to make a good day for them,” he said.

“We thank you for your service,” he said to families as he, and Indio Exalted Ruler Michelle Solvin, welcomed them to the dinner.

It was a fabulous event that the 29 Palms Lodge and the Indio Lodge do yearly to support our troops.
