TWENTYNINE PALMS — A Marine stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center is facing a murder charge following the death of a 26-year-old man in the 7300 block of Saladin Avenue here Sunday, March 2.
Brock Myers, 22, originally from Ohio, was arrested on the scene of the shooting, Sheriff’s Sgt. James Porter said Monday morning, March 3.
Booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with no bail set, he is due in court on Wednesday, March 5, Porter said.
Deputies were called to Saladin Avenue at 9:19 p.m. to a report of a in shot in the head, Porter said. They arrived at 9:23 p.m. and four Myers was still present. He was detained.
Arriving deputies also found the victim, Steven Kohus, 26, of Twentynine Palms, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded to the location and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene where they placed Myers under arrest. The investigation is continuing.
