TWENTYNINE PALMS — Five sites here will host events for the 2019 Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15.

Fifty-seven artists have been chosen this year to show their work, inspired by Joshua Tree National Park, at a judged exhibit at the 29 Palms Art Gallery, 74055 Cottonwood Drive.

The gallery will host an awards reception, with a $5 admission fee, at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

The gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the same day to give visitors a chance to look at the competing art works. With help from the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council and the Chapparel Artists, the gallery will hosts art demonstrations through the day.

The evening will see the awards of cash prizes, including a $1,000 Best of Show award, at 6. Prizes of $700, $400 and $200 will also be awarded for first, second and third place in three categories; two-dimensional, three-dimensional and photography.

It will continue with artist and judges discussion and then time for viewing the art, chatting with artists and enjoying food and beverages.

Saturday activities will also include patio talks at the Oasis Visitor Center, Utah Trail and National Park Drive, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The 29 Palms Inn, Cottonwood Drive and Inn Avenue, will host music by the Luminators, Mark Ross and Paul Gerkin, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Phil Rosenberg of Rags and Bones from 1 to 4 p.m. and an art market, featuring the work of artists from the juried show, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 29 Palms Creative Center and Gallery, Adobe Road north of Sullivan Road, will host art demos from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Inn will host the music of Beverly Derby and Bill Church from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Sunday events will include a patio talk at the Oasis Visitor Center at 10 a.m. and an artists’ tea, part of the NEA’s “Big Read,” event, at the Inn from 10 to noon.

A facilitator will read passages from “Station Eleven,” the centerpiece of the month-long celebration of reading, followed by interactive writing and drawing prompts using the book as inspiration.

Music, featuring the Luminators and Rosenberg, and the art market will return to the 29 Palms Inn and the art gallery will host art demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The evening will conclude with music by Bob Garcia form 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Inn.
