TWENTYNINE PALMS — Casting is complete and work has begin on the latest musical offering at Theatre 29, 73637 Sullivan Road.

Director Gary Daigneault has brought together a cast of mainly Theatre 29 veterans for “The Wizard of Oz,” which will open Friday, March 2, and run four weekends, with performances at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays.

Christina Valentine, an active-duty Marine and newcomer to Theatre 29, will play Dorothy.

She will be joined by Chris Fleischman, seen recently in “The Odd Couple,” as the Scarecrow and Hunk, Kevin Myers, who has graced the Theatre 29 stage in “The Odd Couple” and “Meet Me In St. Louis,” as the Cowardly Lion and Zeke and Aiden Bosworth, a newcomer to Theatre 29 who has been seen onstage at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center, as the Tin Man and Hickory.

Cindy Daigneault, veteran of musicals “Young Frankenstein” and “The Addams Family,” will play Miss Gulch and The Wicked Witch of the West.

Char Childs, seen most recently in “The Mousetrap,” will play Aunt Em and Glinda the Good Witch.

Ben Costello, who some might remember from “Walmartopia” or his work at the Hi-Desert Playhouse, will play Professor Marvel and The Wizard.

Easy Boos, seen recently in “Meet Me In St. Louis,” will play Uncle Henry and the Wizard’s Guard.

A featured ensemble, Carly Bateman, Gabe Bateman, Ron Bottorff, Anna Carnes, Stemarian Hines, Sarabeth Matilsky, Ariel Montes, Adonai Patu, Josiah Ruiz, Emily Sheckler, Shelly Sheckler, Britney Vachon-La Guardia, Noah Walberg and Patricia Zuniga, will play munchkins, winkies, winged monkeys, oznians and others.

“We’re thrilled with our superb cast led by Chris, Kevin, Aidan, Cindy, Char, Ben and Easy, and Christina will make a perfect Dorothy,” Gary Daigneault said. “I’m sure audiences can’t wait to travel the yellow brick road and return to Oz, and the classic story that’s universally loved.”

Daigneault will be assisted by Musical Director Bill Barrett, Choreographer Dani Jara and Costumer Katherine Ferguson who last year worked with Daigneault on “Mary Poppins.”

They will be joined by Stage Manager Mike Lipsitz, Assistant Director Cam D’Angeles, Technical Director Brianna Jillson, Assistant Music Director Liyan Lagevardi, and Dance Captain Sarabeth Matilsky.

For tickets to all performances, reservations can be made online at www.theatre29.org or by calling the Theatre 29 Box Office at (760) 361-4151.
