TWENTYNINE PALMS — Martin Gregory Preston, 58, of Twentynine Palms, was being sought by sheriff’s deputies investigating the burglary of a home in the 3400 block of Utah Trail.

Deputies are also looking for a parrot that was reported stolen.

Deputies responding to the report, at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, were told that the reporting party had asked his friend, Martin Preston, to feed his parrot while he went to Palm Desert to move some of his belongings to his new home.

He said he gave the man a key to the residence but only gave him permission to feed the bird. He told deputies he returned to the house to find the parrot and several high value sports items missing.

He said he also found his turtle pond, hose and trees were missing from the property but that he found some of the missing items at Preston’s nearby residence.

A search warrant was served and several items were recovered but the parrot and several high value items remained missing.

One person was reportedly arrested, cited and released in the field for possession of methamphetamine. Deputies reported that Preston fled the location prior to deputies’ arrival. He is being sought.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morongo Basin sheriff’s station at (760) 366-4175 or (888) 782-7463 (CRIME.)

I see we still have some locals who insist on putting the "high'" in hi-desert.

I seen the guy. He has a feathered wide-brim hat and a wooden leg and a long mustache. He was waving a sword around on the corner of Old Woman and Hwy 62 just yesterday.
