Barbara Florence (Kahre) Munro

July 5, 1945-July 27, 2018

Barbara Florence (Kahre) Munro, an over 40-year resident of California and Joshua Tree, died from complications following a brain aneurysm and subsequent stroke at Manor Care Health Services — Palm Desert/Serenity Hospice on July 27, 2018. She was 73 years old.

The daughter of Herbert Seymour Kahre and Barbara Virginia (Nye) Kahre, she was born July 5, 1945, in Inglewood.

Mom worked many jobs in the area: waitress at Bull and Spear restaurant (Joshua Tree), counter service at Norge Village Cleaners (Yucca Valley), dispatcher at Joshua Tree Ambulance, receptionist at Desert Oasis Healthcare (Yucca Valley), and for the past 15 years, medical transcriptionist at Hi-Desert Physical Rehabilitation Group (Yucca Valley).

She was semi-retired.

She was a volunteer for Joshua Tree Search and Rescue (JOSAR) from 1983 to 1996 and chaperone/driver/and all-around helper for the California Cadet Corps, 29th Cadet Group, 1978-1985.

She was a rock hound and loved jewelry making and arts and crafts. She loved to watch football — the Denver Broncos was her team — and she loved to play bunco with her work family!

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Munro III (2012), and both of her parents.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Herbert Crane, of Upland, and Tracy and James Lester, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

She is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Virginia (Ginny) Schmid, of Joshua Tree, Dorothy (Dottie) Nelson, of Torrance, and Philip (Phil) Kahre, of Joshua Tree, and one “adopted” sister, Heather Baird, of Pocatello, Idaho.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Lee and Pam Schmid, of Yucca Valley, Karey Schmid, of Palm Springs, Lisa Schmid, of Yucca Valley, Gary Nelson, of Lakewood, Lori and Patrick Kalscheuer, of Torrance, Jennifer and Kevin Jobe, of Manteca, and Debbee and Steve Tarr, of Manteca; numerous grand-nieces and nephews: Nicole Schmid, of Brighton, Colorado, Jamie Schmid, of Yucca Valley, Ronnie Schmid and Michelle Blaszak, of Brigham City, Utah, Robert and Anthony Schmid, of Yucca Valley, Spencer and Kari Nelson, of Lakewood, Trent and Vance Kalscheuer, of Torrance, Bryan Kahre, Savhanna and Stephanie Beachman; Karissa, Joey, and Jake Tarr, of Manteca.

In keeping with our mother’s wishes, there will be no services.

Mom was “Mom Munro” to more than just her two daughters. She was always seen as the “fun mom” and the “neighborhood mom.” She welcomed many people into her home and her life. With no grandchildren, Mom forged close bonds with several grand-nieces and -nephews. She had a habit of putting others before herself — ensuring others were cared for before taking care of herself.
