Ida Porteus Jines, a resident of Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree for 30 years, died Feb. 18, 2010, in Apple Valley. She was 93.

She was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Detroit, Mich., to Alexander Porteus and Anna (Lucas) Porteus.

A schoolteacher for 25 years before she retired, Mrs. Jines held a master’s degree in education.

Her great passion was teaching the Bible, especially to women individually and in class settings.

She was a member of the Church of Christ since 1937.

Mrs. Jines was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jines.

She is survived by sons Joseph Nichols of Lodge Grass, Mont., and Alex Nichols of Joshua Tree; sister Mary McWilliams of Victorville; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Twentynine Palms Public Cemetery, 5350 Encelia Ave. in Twentynine Palms. Pastor John Turner of the Yucca Valley Church of Christ will officiate.
