More rooftops needed in 29

Many residents of the city of Twentynine Palms have longed for more stores within the city limits, such as another grocery store, or a place to buy socks and other basic necessities. The addition of Starbucks and Cold Stone Creamery in the city is great news for most residents.

However, many larger stores have criteria that make it very difficult for them to open a new location in 29 Palms. Would you like to see the discount grocer Aldi in town? They require 80,000 people living in a three-mile radius of the site. How about a Trader Joe’s? They say they need a population of 120,000.

Similar population requirements are needed for other stores like Smart and Final (65,000 in a two-mile radius), or Fallas department store (50,000).

Even if a company is considering a new location in the high desert, they look first to be in Yucca Valley, since it is closer to other stores, Interstate 10 and Palm Springs.

They say it is more likely that residents of 29 will go to Yucca Valley than residents from Yucca Valley will go to 29. The solution is clear, if 29 Palms is going to attract more desirable new stores locally, it needs more permanent residents; i.e. more “rooftops.”

I personally don't want to live anywhere where my city/town meets these requirements: "require 80,000 people living in a three-mile radius of the site." "Trader Joe’s? They say they need a population of 120,000." "Smart and Final (65,000 in a two-mile radius)". If I wanted to live like this I would not be living in 29 Palms. If this is what you want; move!
