TWENTYNINE PALMS — The Twentynine Palms High School girls varsity basketball team celebrated senior night by making easy work of Desert Hot Springs at home Tuesday, Feb. 6.

After opening the night with a 32-2 run in the first quarter, the Wildcats built a 51-4 halftime lead, then held the Eagles scoreless in the third quarter and went into the final quarter with a 73- 4 edge.

Leading scorers were Lindsey Scamman with 23 points, Destiny Dedmon with 13 points, Mary Carbiener with nine points and Jhordan Stanley with eight points.

“The team is starting to play its best basketball of the season,” Coach Tim Stanford said. “Team chemistry is at a season high. We are excited about our chances in the playoffs.”

The win gives the Wildcats a 9-0 De Anza League mark and solid possession of first place going into the final game of the regular season. The Wildcats will travel to Rancho Mirage on Friday, Feb. 9.

The junior varsity Wildcats had a similarly easy time against their counterparts. After opening with a 20-2 run in the first quarter, the Wildcats built a 33-12 halftime lead, then held the Eagles to four points in the third quarter to build a 50-16 edge going into the final quarter.
