TWENTYNINE PALMS — The Twentynine Palms Little League major softball all-star team is on its way to the SoCal State tournament in Grand Terrace after dominating the competition in a sectionals tournament over the weekend.
The Twentynine Palms all-stars overwhelmed the Pachappa all-stars from Riverside, beating them 17-0 Saturday, June 29 and 18-1 Sunday, June 30.
They will play their first game at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Veterans Freedom Park, 22795 Barton Road, in Grand Terrace.
The Twentynine Palms Little League major softball all-star team completed its conquest of the District 58 championship with a 14-4 win over Tri Valley Little League Wednesday, June 26, at Luckie Park.
“Very proud of the girls,” coach Rose Silvas said in the wake of the win.
“We move on to the sectional tournament this weekend being held in Banning,” she said. “The girls have worked hard so they’ll be ready for the tough competition ahead.”
She said she expects a new level of competition in this latest tournament.
“Expecting tough competition as the caliber of talent will be at the next level. This will be a fun and memorable experience for our girls,” she said.
The Twentynine Palms 50/70 baseball all-star team was eliminated from its tournament.
All-star Angel Gonzales hit a ball out of the park during the tournament while teammate Noah Barber split his leg open and needed nine staples to close the wound.
The minor baseball all-stars played Desert Hot Springs in an elimination game Monday, July 1, at Luckie Park and won 20-12 after taking a 6-2 lead into the second inning.
